9 Ladies Dancing

Psalm 30:10-12
10 Hear LORD, and be merciful to me;
LORD, be my help.
11 You turned my wailing into dancing;
you removed my sackcloth and clothed
me with joy.
12 that my heart may sing your praises
and not be silent.
LORD my God, I will praise you forever.

Show Preface

Show Preface “Introspect: A Self-Portrait” — Show Date: Aug. 17th, 8pm at VS&G.

I have been accused by some of over-analyzing, over-thinking my work, but this is where and most recent that i have the most fun—the intellect-side of art and the questioning thereof “the why?”.

This journey inward has made me come to recognize that many of the art projects i initiate, that at some point during the creative process the art project takes on a life of its own. i simply become a mid-wife, or rather, the observer of life to account for the metamorphosis of questions and theories into being.

note my apologies: i have fun with play-on-words, creative libertaries and to use words as i please. deconstruction, re-assemblage, mis-spelled, misuse, muse, and make-up words... all for which i am guilty yet exonerate by means of creative rights where there are no limits. i apply all this nonsense/mischief with low frequency and hopeful subtlety while capering about the occasional unintentional that may possibly muddy my intent. i am a whimsy free-spirit that likes to push boundaries yet comport my-self.

Ultimately my hope for this show is to be ‘ ¡nteractive! , which requires both myself and yourself.
the evolution of this show "Introspect: A Self-Portrait" began with a set of modest parameters inescapable of my own personal goals to ‘know thyself’ and to mesh parallel existence(s) of both my fine art with my chronic commercialism. I can say with success that i have begun to unravel the mysteries of my own self while engaging the many facets of my creativity, and in doing so i have stumbleupon that which i/we/society - oui are entangled and with a shared need for ‘know thyself’.

One objective for this show is to challenge the observer to be conscious of and question his/her own ex i st(a)nce, while another is to déchiffrer a possible new and original more complex idea or theme.
One such hypothesis for this show and its elements could be “Gods Heroes and Monsters” but i do shy from the risk of spoiling the surprise or unexpected culmination thereof, and without me telling you what i think or telling you what you think, i encourage you, too, to become the observer and to arrive at your own-self theseus.

acknowledgement: recently i picked up a book from my college years titled “Thinking Creatively” by Robin Landa - pp. 76, 77 and book quote:
“Putting together separate elements to form a new, more complex whole produces an original visual. The combination of related or disparate elements—photographs with flat shapes, abstract elements with representational elements—can result in star-tling, rich entity. Of course, one must always strive for coherence when synthesizing elements, as in NAGAI's imaginative paper samples.”
Foremost a visual communicator, i must admit the image on page 76 is what initially drew me in to the read (but isn't that the intended function of an image?). hand-in-hand, the visual and the literary juxtapose to communicate - this is where the internet thrives ¡loveit!

          ... and then my art project began to take on a life of its own.

theory
synthesis
dialectic
change
theory...

The questions are endless and with only a suggested, no real concrete explanation as to “the why?”,
and then their(intentional mis-spell) are numerous ponders seemingly with no apparent reasoning at all.
it just is.  a simply Be.
